From:

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO A WILLING HEART

You can do anything in this world you want to do,
but you must want to do it badly enough.
You really can have everything you want, if you go after it.
You have to want it.

The first ingredient of success is desire.
Do you know what you want?
Your desire is the planting of your seed.

Your desire for success must be so strong within you
that it's the very breath of your life.
It must be your first thought when you wake in the morning,
and your last thought when you go to bed at night.

You can be whatever you make up your mind to be.
What's in your mind is all that counts.

Thank you so much. If possible, could you create one for our executive director, Liz Larmirand? I've shared these with her in the past and she's been inspired by them. She's been a phenomenal leader, employee, mother, and friend.

Thanks so much for your consideration.

When Do You Celebrate?

What in your life is worth celebrating? Don’t wait for big success to throw a party, celebrate your little successes everyday. Forget Hallmark - you do not need an occasion or a date on the calendar to feel good about yourself or to applaud the efforts of others. Leaders take care of those they lead.
Celebrating and enjoying success are part of being a leader. Yet when you are driving towards a goal, basking in the joy of accomplishing small milestones is often forgotten. Celebrate a success today! Relax and be proud for at least five minutes!

Keep leading from the front!

From the article:

Success is Predictable

It's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking successful businesses and world-class people started out that way. So easy to be seduced into thinking that those who achieve the extras got there through lucky breaks and superior talents.
Not true. Every dream starts off small.

Sam Walton started with a single store (Wal-Mart is now the world's largest company). U2 started with its first gig. Picasso started with his first painting. And then each and
every day they took small, focused steps into the direction of the mountaintop.

Success is no accident. Instead, it's a choice - and one you can make today. By reaching higher. By being bolder and by investing in yourself. Because as you learn more, you can be more.

From the article:

Hidden Gems
Experiences We Don’t Understand

Sometimes we have an experience that we don’t understand, but if we look deeply, or wait long enough, a reason for that experience will usually reveal itself. All the events in our lives lead to other events, and all that we have manifested in this present moment is the result of past events and experiences. We cannot easily tease apart the many threads that have been woven together to create our current reality. Experiences that don’t make sense, as well as any that we regret, are just as responsible for the good things in our lives as the experiences we do understand or label as “good.”

This is especially important to remember at times when we feel directionless or unsure of what to do. It is often at times like these that we take a job or move to a place without really knowing if it’s the right thing to do. We may ultimately end up leaving the job or the place, but often during that time we will have met someone who becomes an important friend, or we may have an experience that changes us in a profound way. When all the pieces of our life don’t quite make sense, we can remember that there may be some hidden gem of a reason that we are where we are having the experiences we are having.

It’s fun to look back on past experiences with an eye to uncovering those gems—the dreadful temporary job in a bland office building that introduced you to the love of your life; the roommate you couldn’t tolerate who gave you a book that changed your life; the time spent living in a city you didn’t like that led you into a deeper relationship with yourself. Remembering these past experiences can restore our faith in the present. Life is full of buried treasures. Chances are, you’re sitting on some right now.

From:
What will Matter? By Michael Josephson
Josephson Institute of Ethics

by Michael Josephson

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.
All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten
will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations
and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won't matter where you came from
or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.
It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter?
How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought
but what you built, not what you got but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success
but your significance.

What will matter is not what you learned
but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity,
compassion, courage, or sacrifice
that enriched, empowered or encouraged others
to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence
but your character.

What will matter is not how many people you knew,
but how many will feel a lasting loss when your gone.

What will matter is not your memories
but the memories that live in those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered,
by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident.
It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice.

Choose to live a life that matters.

Welcome

I have some exceptional friends who influence culture by influencing individuals. My friend Katie has been encouraging, both physically and spiritually, young women who are facing unwanted pregnancies. Mike moved into an inner-city neighborhood so he could find ways to reach those trapped in poverty. Diane meets with women who've been emotionally wounded to help them get back on their feet in practical ways. Shirley babysits for couples so they can get away together. Kyle tutors at-risk students who need extra help.

All of these people have helped me learn what it means to live for the kingdom of God in our culture. To explore this idea further, we've put together a 13-session course called Kingdom Living in Our Culture. Use this study in your Sunday school class or small group to examine what it means to live for Christ in our society.

Also new this week:

Fasting: do people still do it?
Two studies for men: Turning Temptation into Obedience and A Legacy of Spiritual Fortitude.
May God use you to affect those around you.

Blessings,

AMAZING GRACE MOVIE

From Bristol Bay Productions (RAY), the sister company of Walden Media (Chronicles of Narnia), comes an epic story of courage and passion as William Wilberforce and a community of abolitionists take on the most powerful forces of their day to end the British slave trade. AMAZING GRACE (starring Ioan Gruffudd and Albert Finney, directed by Michael Apted, and produced by Ken Wales and Patricia Heaton, among others) is the true story of a leader called to put his faith into action and the loyal friends who risked everything to join him.

Inspired by Dennis Waitley's:

"A Child's Bedtime Song" :

If I had two wishes, I know what they would be
I'd wish for roots to cling to, and wings to set me free;
Roots of inner values, like rings within a tree,
And wings of independence to seek my destiny.

Roots to hold forever, to keep me safe and strong
To let me know you love me, when I've done something wrong;
To show me by example, and help me learn to choose
To take those actions every day to win instead of lose.

Just be there when I need you, to tell me it's all right
To face my fear of falling when I test my wings in flight;
Don't make my life too easy, it's better if I try
And fail and get back up myself, so I can learn to fly.

From the Book by Oren Harari

==============================================================================

Book Description

Everywhere, products are being commoditized, services are being imitated, and traditional barriers to market entry are collapsing. To sustain competitive advantage in today's Copycat Economy, companies must break from the pack. This book will show how. Oren Harari starts by touring "Commodity Hell," and identifying 10 common mistakes that keep companies trapped in the pack. Next, Harari introduces six strategies for propelling your organization where competitors can't follow. Learn how to dominate markets (and when to leave them); how to create a "higher cause" that will mobilize stakeholders; and how to build a pipeline of cool, compelling products, in any industry. Harari reveals new ways to take customers far beyond mere "satisfaction," and shows how to innovate in even the most prosaic areas of a business. Learn how to avoid destructive mergers, and buy what really matters: talent, imagination, foresight, speed, rebelliousness, and inspiration. Finally, Harari offers a candid "12 Step" program for transforming leadership behavior to lead the charge -- and leave competitors in the dust.
